Barty’s Story

(THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS)

Barty’s full name is Bartemius David Lockhart. He is actually Theta Sigma, an alien from the planet Gallifrey, and is more widely known simply as The Doctor. His story follows the events of Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Harry Potter.

When the Doctor was eight years old (then known as Theta), he entered into the Academy on Gallifrey alongside his childhood friend The Master (then known as Koschei), where they would train to become Time Lords and earn their own space-time machine known as the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space). Upon the day of his arrival, Theta met a mysterious man who seemed to know a great deal about his future, and who was quite surprised to even see Theta in person, remarking that “It’s hard to imagine you were ever actually a child.” Theta quickly grew very attached to the man and, when he didn’t show up again the next day, Theta spent the following days looking for him, as he believed the man to be a professor.

Days turned to weeks, then to months, and soon years had passed. Theta searched for his “professor” every day, but to no avail. He’d been assured by the Academy staff that such a man did not exist, and that he had simply created him in his head to deal with the pain of being separated from his parents. Theta refused to believe that his friend had been made up, and began to search the entire Academy grounds with even greater determination. As a result, Theta’s relationship with Koschei began to deteriorate drastically. Koschei had been in love with Theta for some time and became increasingly jealous of this “imaginary friend” that his Theta had become so taken with.

During the last few years of Academy training, after he had finally, seemingly forgotten his “imaginary friend”, Theta began casually dating a young woman named Romana. This sent Koschei over the edge. He felt betrayed that Theta would choose yet another person over him, after he had stood by him and waited so many years for him to get over his obsession with the non-existant “professor”. Koschei’s love for Theta quickly became a twisted obsession of its own and, in an act of rage and desperation, he trapped Theta in an empty classroom, where he raped and beat him to the brink of his first regeneration.

Koschei eventually left Theta locked in the classroom to regenerate from his injuries, where he was quickly found by the “imaginary friend” he’d spent years searching the Academy for. This time the man stayed with Theta for nearly a month, giving him the care and comfort he needed, while nursing him back to health and preventing his regeneration. He explained that while he couldn’t tell Theta his name, he was a good friend of his from the future and that he would continue to show up at certain points in his life. He also explained that he could show up only at those points because, like Theta, he was also a time-traveler, but his technology wasn’t as advanced as that of the Time Lords. He could only stay for so long each visit, before he would be forced back to his own time, and the longer he stayed, the more dangerous it was to travel back to him again.

Once Theta had recovered enough to be on his own again, he returned to his studies and his friend returned to his own time in the future. They wouldn’t see each other again until roughly 700 years later, during Theta’s fourth regeneration, and long after he’d taken the name “The Doctor”. Affected by an unknown force, the TARDIS materialized in the backyard of a grand estate in 21st century Hastings, England. The Doctor was greeted by his mysterious friend, both of them quite altered in appearance than they remembered; The Doctor with a new face, and his friend much aged and grey.

The man showed the Doctor how he had time-travelled to see him in his youth - through the use of stolen Time Lord technology in the form of a vortex manipulator. This incited a slew of personal insults from the Doctor, who realized the person he’d long admired, and slowly started having feelings for, had been nothing more than an ordinary human with no special qualities at all. But the Doctor didn’t really care that his friend was human, nor that he had Time Lord technology. He merely felt abandoned and betrayed that his friend had not visited him all these long years, especially considering the man was now old and supposedly close to the end of his life. And still he refused to tell the Doctor his name.

Near the end of their visit, the man told the Doctor that he’d be meeting another old friend upon his return to Gallifrey, someone else who was also very important to his future. This person turned out to be the Doctor’s Academy sweetheart, Romana. The Doctor and Romana then began traveling together, and eventually they fell in love again. During Romana’s second regeneration, the two were finally married and decided to go to Paris for their honeymoon trip. A few days into their stay, the Doctor and Romana were visited by a pregnant Time Lady named Marie. Realizing the woman was their future daughter from all the little, not-so-subtle hints she kept dropping, and despite the Doctor’s protests, Romana insisted that she stay with them until her children were born and she was well enough to travel on her own again. Marie eventually gave birth to three children, two boys and one girl; John, Gilderoy II, and Sarah.

The Doctor and Romana extended their trip in Paris by a few years, and continued to live there with their daughter and grandchildren, until Marie felt it was time to return to the future. After they had gone, Romana convinced the Doctor that it was time they finally return home as well and start a family of their own.
